OAS Antelope Island Star Party 5-9-2026

May 9, 2026

Find us at the Antelope Island State Park star party hosted by the Ogden Astronomical Society (OAS). We absolutely love this free community event and have a lot of fun helping with it whenever we can!

These events begin before sunset, giving you the chance to arrive early and use solar telescopes to safely observe the Sun in incredible detail—sometimes revealing sunspots or solar activity. As the evening progresses, you can also enjoy a beautiful sunset over the island before the stars begin to appear.

The Antelope Island State Park entrance closes at 10:00pm, so make sure you arrive before 10:00pm. There is a motion sensing gate allowing you to stay later and exit the park anytime after 10:00pm, but you cannot reenter the park after then.

These events offer a lively stargazing experience set against the dark skies of Antelope Island. On any given night, you might find upwards of 800 attendees gathered together, with 10–20 telescopes set up by volunteer astronomers throughout the area.

Rather than a structured program, guests are free to walk around and explore at their own pace. Each telescope offers a different and sometimes similar view of the night sky—planets like Saturn or Jupiter, distant galaxies, glowing nebulae, and star clusters—depending on what’s visible that evening. It’s a great opportunity to see a wide variety of objects and connect with others who share an interest in astronomy.

This event is very different from our Guided Stargazing Experiences. These star parties are large, open gatherings with shared telescopes and no formal structure. If you’re looking for a more personal, in-depth experience with dedicated telescope time and guided instruction, be sure to check out our Guided Stargazing Experiences.
